Job Opening - Development Intern (05/2010)

2010 May 7

The Chinati Foundation
Marfa, Texas

Chinati is offering a new, single internship with a focus on development.

The Development Intern’s responsibilities include assisting the Director of Development with grant writing, researching, membership development, special events, report writing, and general office duties. The Development Internship will last 3-6 months. A B.A. or M.A. in museum studies, arts administration, non-profit management, communications or similar field is required. One year of experience in the development or museum field is preferred.

As Chinati’s permanent staff is small, interns play an essential role in the museum’s operations. Working closely with the Director of Development, the Development Intern will gain valuable experience for future courses of study and careers in museum studies orĀ  arts/non-profit administration. An average work week is 40 hours and occasional weekend time may be required for special events.

As compensation, the Museum offers interns a modest stipend of $100 per week, a furnished apartment on the Chinati grounds, and travel reimbursement from and to the El Paso airport. The Development Intern will join a group of approximately 7 Chinati Interns who also live on-site and work with museum operations and conservation.

Since 1990, the Chinati Foundation’s Internship Program has provided hands-on museum experience to more than 240 students and recent graduates from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. During extended stays at Chinati, interns are engaged directly in all aspects of the museum’s daily activities, working closely with staff, resident artists, visiting scholars, architects, and museum professionals. Over the last 17 years, participants in the Internship Program have come to Chinati from around the world, including all parts of the United States, as well as Austria, Belgium, England, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Brazil, Scotland, Sweden, and Australia.

Although Chinati’s internships are geared toward students pursuing degrees in museum studies or arts/non-profit management, the museum welcomes applicants of all ages and backgrounds.
