The Mead Art Museum at Amherst College seeks a creative, energetic, intelligent, articulate, and intellectually curious Assistant in the Mead Art Museum. Under the supervision of the Director and Chief Curator, the Assistant in the Mead Art Museum will assist in answering phone calls; maintaining calendars and files; scheduling meetings; drafting high-level correspondence with alumni, donors, students, faculty, scholars, and members of the public; and organizing travel. Projects will include, but are not limited to, archiving curatorial correspondence into a confidential fund raising-related database; copy-editing, formatting, and printing object label texts; recording and producing audio and video podcasts with students and faculty; producing electronic publications; maintaining and distributing the Friends group’s electronic newsletter and web feature, “SpeedMead: museum news in a flash”; managing the museum’s Twitter and Facebook accounts; archiving news publications; sorting mail; photocopying and scanning.

Minimum qualifications: high school plus additional specialized training, Associate’s degree preferred, and 3-5 years administrative or comparable experience preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong writing and computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet required. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, HTML and web-programming, and Apple Garageband and iMovie desired. Candidates should be generally familiar with art history; organized; diplomatic; articulate; able to follow instructions; adherent to deadlines; able to multi-task; comfortable working in a busy, sometimes unpredictable environment; willing to pitch in as part of an energetic team of twelve professional staff; willing to embrace new projects and to continue to learn new skills; committed to fostering environments of diversity; and willing to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
