Anne Lunder Leland Fellowship in Curatorial Practice

The Anne Lunder Leland Fellowship in Curatorial Practice of American Art at the Colby College Museum of Art will support a recent college graduate or graduate student for a one-year appointment at the museum, with the possibility of a renewable second year. The Fellow will be given full-time duties in the museum, working primarily with the Lunder Curator of American Art. The Anne Lunder Leland Fellow’s responsibilities will include: research on the permanent collection, management of museum publications, support of the museum’s Web site, management of the museum’s E-Newsletter, coordination of museum publicity, and curatorial support for exhibitions and programs.

A Bachelor’s degree in art history is required, an M.A. is preferred with demonstrable museum experience. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, flexible, comfortable with diverse audiences, and have excellent interpersonal skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with a small professional staff, students, and faculty.

The museum’s permanent collection includes more than 6,000 objects with an emphasis on American art from the mid-18th century through the present, including strong holdings in modern and contemporary art. In 2007, the museum announced the gift of Peter and Paula Lunder’s extraordinary collection of more than 450 works of American art. The museum’s facilities encompass 28,000 square feet of exhibition space, including a wing by Frederick Fisher and plans for an expansion to be completed in 2013.
