General Description:
The Collections Manager has primary responsibility for collection cataloguing, collection database management, ordering copy photography of the collection, and care and organization of the collection. The Collections Manager oversees the Study Room for Photographs and supervises two employees.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Catalogue all acquisitions, objects for outgoing loan, and objects for exhibition
• Update database records with bibliographic information, exhibition history, provenance, and physical descriptions as necessary
• Manage and oversee all collection metadata including updating collections records in The Museum System (TMS) to conform to new museum-wide standards
• Act as a liaison with the Registrar and Collections Management regarding all accessioning policies and procedures
• Act as liaison with Digital Media for all collections-related projects
• Care and organization of collection storage including, but not limited to, disaster preparedness planning, organization of offsite storage, and inventory
• Supervise Collections Management Associate, Departmental Technician, and collections interns
• Manage and supervise the Study Room for Photographs
• Process all orders for new photography
• Copy edit collection data for the Museum’s website, Merchandising, and external reproduction requests processed by the Image Library
• Other related duties

Requirements and Qualifications:

Experience and Skills:
• Minimum of five years’ experience in collections care and art handling
• Thorough knowledge of museum registration practices
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Extensive experience working with museum cataloguing systems with a strong preference for experience with The Museum System (TMS)
• Excellent organizational, proofreading, and analytical skills
• Ability to lift boxes up to 20 lbs.

Knowledge and Education:
• Masters degree in art history, museum studies, or library science
• Thorough knowledge of the history of photography
