The School of Art at Illinois State University seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or tenure-track Associate Professor of Art History to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the art and architecture of the Americas, emphasizing pre-twentieth century art, beginning August 16, 1012. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Art of the United States (colonial to the Depression-era), and develop complementary courses in the art of the Americas, broadly understood. The candidate will also contribute to the teaching of the survey of art history, undergraduate research methods, graduate courses in visual culture, and general education. Additional responsibilities include working with graduate students in the M. F. A. studio program, and serving the school, college, and university on committees.
We are seeking a knowledgeable, innovative, and dedicated professional with an understanding of contemporary issues in the discipline. An earned doctorate is strongly preferred, but ABD within one year of completion will be considered. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and professional activity (publication, presentations, etc.) is expected. Teaching experience beyond assistantship duties is preferred.
Illinois State University is located in the Normal/Bloomington area midway between Chicago and St. Louis along Interstate 55. Faculty members in the art history program enjoy a positive relationship with their colleagues in the studio concentrations and art education. The School is made up of thirty-four full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members, and our student population averages between 450 and 500 majors at the undergraduate level and approximately 30 to 40 graduate students.
