Southern New Hampshire University seeks candidates in art history for the position of instructor in the Department of Humanities and Fine Arts. This is a full-time position, eligible for promotion, and with a comprehensive benefits package. The starting date is September 1, 2012. The candidate will have expertise in Modern and Contemporary art and culture, with the ability to examine art and visual culture from new interdisciplinary perspectives and across a range of media. Responsibilities include teaching humanities survey courses (Western culture interpreted through art, architecture, music, religion, philosophy, poetry) and upper level courses in an integrated curriculum of arts and humanities. The teaching load is seven courses per academic year, with an ongoing scholarly activity plan.
ABD or equivalent in a relevant field. A strong record of success in teaching undergraduates is essential. PhD in a relevant field at time of hire. Preference is given to candidates who have a broad understanding of visual production from the eighteenth century to the present, as well as a background in at least one of the following: philosophy, history, music, drama.
