Job Opening – Curatorial Intern (03/2012)

QMA seeks an energetic, detail-oriented Intern, with strong interests in modern and contemporary art. This is an unpaid, spring-summer internship, 3-4 days per week in the curatorial department. The Intern will be assigned to work in the following areas, in various stages of development:

1. Caribbean: Crossroads of the World is a major collaboration with El Museo del Barrio and Studio Museum in Harlem highlighting over two centuries of rarely-seen works spanning the Haitian Revolution (1791) to the present.  This exhibition opens June 17 2012 and will be accompanied by extensive public programming. Works range from painting, sculpture, prints, and books to historic artifacts and film and video from various Caribbean nations, Europe, and the United States.
2. Collections research and cataloguing. Primarily the QMA’s World’s Fair collections, but also photography and contemporary art.
3. Research for upcoming exhibitions of contemporary art, to be realized at the Museum’s expansion in Fall 2013.

Internship dates: March 2012 through August 2012
Requirements: MA in art history, museum studies, curatorial studies, or arts administration. Familiarity with Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator or other design programs a plus.

Stipend for transportation expenses.
