The director of exhibitions operations serves as the administrator to assure successful programming, coordination, logistics and scheduling in the exhibitions department in Savannah, Atlanta, Hong Kong and Lacoste, France.

The person in this position will develop, manage and maintain department production schedules; work with senior exhibition designer, registrar and art preparators to ensure that professional practices are being used to handle, install, pack, ship and store artworks; build and maintain positive and productive relationships with all relevant SCAD professors and administration to promote programming and gain constructive feedback; serve as point person for scheduling special exhibitions events in all SCAD galleries; work with events and conferencing departments to avoid scheduling conflicts in galleries; and consult with curators about special events that may affect exhibitions.

The successful candidate will assist the executive director with special projects and initiatives as needed; travel, as needed, to promote SCAD and the exhibitions department and research offsite exhibition spaces; prepare quarterly and annual reports on all aspects of operations; work with sales associates to recruit, staff, train, schedule and manage student docents; support sales manager’s efforts to develop and expand sales by initiating new contacts and maintaining communication with current clients; provide marketing suggestions to executive director to increase SCAD’s visibility and prestige in local and global art contexts; work as exhibitions liaison with Design Group and professors to facilitate exhibition requests; and oversee the upkeep of the cleanliness and maintenance of the SCAD Savannah gallery spaces (this work includes providing guidance and assistance with lighting, arranging, light painting and other preparatory needs as required.)

The director of exhibitions operations will assist in developing special project and sales proposals; meet with direct reports on a regular basis and complete annual performance reviews; establish and maintain positive professional relationships with applicable art organizations, public and private funding sources, and other galleries and museums. He or she will perform other duties as required to ensure the success of the exhibitions department and to carry out the mission of the university.

Must have Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts degree in an art history, allied art, general art or education program from an accredited institution and at least four to five years related experience and/or training. The position requires at least four years management experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
