Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The position requires teaching Museum and Gallery Studies courses, one or more specialized non-western areas including Asian Arts and/or African Arts, as well as the Introductory Survey of Art.

Active participation in departmental affairs, including grant writing, recruitment of students, curriculum development, and project planning specifically targeted to the preparation of future artists and art historians will be expected. Provide academic advisement and assistance for students as part of the registration process. Involvement in college-wide activities related to educational and pedagogical issues, including teaching two courses annually as part of QCC’s Writing Intensive Program. Continuing involvement in research or creative/scholarly activity within the applicant’s discipline. Some evening or weekend teaching may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
For Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

For Instructor:
Master’s degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Previous college-level Art History teaching experience, including general art history survey courses, and evidence of scholarly activity are required for either Instructor or Assistant Professor title. A completed Ph.D. is preferred but ABD will be considered for initial Instructor level appointment. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations preferred. Applicant should have strong background in both Gallery and Museum Studies as well as Non-western Art.

COMPENSATION
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
