Position Description: The Art Museum Curator of Education develops and implements academic programs for all ages, including K-12, undergraduate and graduate students, adult and senior audiences. This person organizes lectures and gallery talks, film series and special programs to reach the needs of students and faculty on campus, in addition to members of the community. He or she works closely with faculty to design tours and programs that will help students make connections between the works of art in the museum and themes in their courses. The curator will teach upper level undergraduate and graduate level classes in conjunction with the Lamar Dodd School of Art and will teach in the Georgia Museum of Art museum studies certification program.  As department head and coordinator of the education department at the museum, the curator directs the departmental staff in programming and financial responsibilities. As head of the education department, the position collaborates with the other curatorial staff of the museum to coordinate educational programs and activities that facilitate the interpretation of works of art in the collection and correlate programming with exhibitions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in art history or art education
  • Five years of experience directly related to the development and implementation of academic programs, including but not limited to lectures and gallery talks, intern programs, collaborative film series, state-wide and local educational outreach programs for all ages
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups internal and external to the college including administrators, faculty, staff, and school and community leaders
  • Strong presentation and writing skills
  • Commitment to student and faculty diversity and multiculturalism
  • Minimum of seven years college/university art museum experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the development and implementation of a museum studies certification program
  • Experience in coordination of docent education
