Washburn University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Mulvane Art Museum. The Mulvane Art Museum, an AAM accredited museum, was founded in 1922 and has a collection of approximately 4000 objects from around the world, with a concentration in American art of the 20th century and the state of Kansas. The Mulvane draws its funding from federal, state and local grants and contracts, from the university budget, from the Friends of Mulvane Art museum, and from private gifts and corporate contributions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of the Mulvane Art Museum is responsible for the following activities:
· Develop and implement a Strategic Vision for the Museum.
· Coordinate the efforts in public relations and fundraising in conjunction with the appropriate campus departments/resources.
· Direct and manage an annual budget in order to accomplish strategic goals.
· Work to foster collegial and transparent working environment for the board members, faculty, staff, donors and other community constituencies.
· Work with university and community leaders to maintain and improve facilities.
· Work with staff and others to develop federal, state or private grants.
· Participate in University Service/meetings.
· Other duties as assigned by the VPAA.
The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, oversees a year-round schedule of exhibitions and supervises a staff of seven full time staff and many volunteers. The Director works closely with the Washburn University Department of Art, the Friends of Mulvane Board and the Mulvane Women’s Board. In 2006, the museum completed a major renovation that greatly expanded gallery space, collection storage, space for educational programming and in 2011 the HVAC system and humidity controls were upgraded.
Masters’ degree in Museum Studies or Art History, MFA or related field. Five years experience as museum professional, accredited museum preferred. Demonstrated experience in leadership, visioning and strategic planning. Extensive knowledge of museum policies, standards, practices, public relations, special events and financial management including budgeting. Curatorial experience with both exhibitions and collections. Strong administrative skills with the demonstrated ability to work with administration, museum staff, Board of Directors, academic departments, individuals in the community and with organizations from the local to national level. Strong interpersonal and communication skills including electronic formats such as the web. Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students in a University setting.
Demonstrated success with generating support through volunteers, internal and external agencies. Demonstrated success in fundraising through activities, special events and grant writing. Demonstrated success in developing educational programs within the museum and the community. Demonstrated success in providing art museum exhibitions and programs that are accessible and inviting for all people.
