Essential Job Duties:
As director of NCSU Pipes and Drums: – Serve as instructor for MUS 152 Pipes and Drums, a one-credit academic performance ensemble – Instruct and develop beginning pipers – Select scores appropriate to varied skill levels -Direct Grade III and Grade IV Bands at rehearsals, concerts, performances, and competitions – Serve as instructor for MUS 152 Pipes and Drums, a one-credit academic performance ensemble – Instruct and develop beginning pipers – Select scores appropriate to varied skill levels – Direct Grade III and Grade IV Bans at rehearsals, concerts, performances, and competitions – Maintain student records – Coordinate on-campus and community outreach performances – Maintain inventory of pipes, drums, and uniforms – Arrange for classroom and rehearsal space on and off campus – Oversee volunteer band assistants
– Assist with awarding of NCSU Pipes and Drums Scholarship
– Master’s degree is required – Ability to instruct pipers and drummers
Departmental Required Skills:
– Demonstrated ability to instruct pipers and drummers of varying ages and skill levels – Inventory and record-keeping experience – Ability to select scores appropriate to varied skill levels – Coordination and organizational skills
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
– Bagpipe teacher experience – Leadership role in a bagpipe band – Pipes & Drums performance completion experience
Necessary Licenses or Certifications:
Valid NCDL (if not current, must be obtained within 60 days of hire).
About the Department/Unit:
The Music Department is an academic department housed in ARTS NC STATE, a unit of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. Music offers two minors–a music minor with emphases in Liberal Arts, History, Theory and Composition, and Performance, and an Arts Entrepreneurship minor for students seeking an entrepreneurial career in the arts or art-related industries. Approximately 1800 students are served annually through academic music classes and for-credit performance ensembles.
